Internationally-known Blown Glass Artist's work comes to The Laurel Tree in Duvall
Jan 27, 2009 -- The Laurel Tree gallery in Duvall has recently been notified that artist Chris Heilman will display his work here. Mr. Heilman's blown glass has been sold internationally and is owned by several well-known national figures. The Laurel Tree is a new retail art gallery opened in November. Mr Heilman, artist in residence at Uptown Glassworks, specializes in creating detailed painting-like sculptures within his glass objects. He achieves the fine detail using murrini canes –- hand-pulled glass rods – that he torch-melts into the glass in layers. With this technique he creates rich images such as wisteria trees and plum blossoms. His work has been featured in galleries and museums around the country and internationally. Established in 1994, Uptown Glassworks hosts a diverse selection of hand-blown glass from over 90 local and regional glass artists. With access to so many blown glass artists, Uptown Glassworks is able to fulfill requests for more traditional items, such as floppy and sucker bowls, but is also able to create true one-of-a-kind pieces. Other artists who have preceded Heilman and Uptown Glassworks to The Laurel Tree include established artists such as Gwen Maxwell-Williams, Larry Halvorson and Margerite Wagner, along with newcomers like Lee Hendrickson, Laurie Dalton, and LoRic Studios. The last two have their studios in Duvall.
